“Our Main Goal with Children Who Attend Our Centres for Tutoring is That They Feel Happy, Smart and Confident”
Whether they are coming because they are struggling at school or gifted and wanting more of a challenge, we believe every child should reach their potential and we can help them to be there.
When a child starts at Begin Bright, we give them a values survey so that we can discover what makes them tick, what things they enjoy and what they don’t. This allows us to communicate with each child in their values and have more exercises that are appropriate for them.
Our worksheets are put into colour levels rather than year levels allowing each child to work at their level without feeling like they are behind in years.
What Is Your Child’s Level?
Our orange level program is offered for advanced children in the year before they start school in group classes and also for children in their first year of school.
Our program is based on synthetic phonics and giving children a really good foundation of reading principles. The program goes through single sounds, blend sound sounds and then introduce children to sight words, punctuation and writing.
For Mathematics, we are focusing on forming a solid foundation and understanding of concrete concepts behind the abstract questions. At this year level children can connect names, numerals and quantities for numbers. We encourage fluency in counting sequences and adding and subtracting and developing problem solving skills.
The red level program is designed for children in Stage 1 – Year 1 & 2 of school.
Using the Begin Bright characters, the program goes through comprehension exercises, cloze sentences and rhyming words.
As we’ve progressed through single sounds and blends, we now go onto diagraphs (double sounds). Children will learn basic grammar, punctuation, sentence structure and writing skills.
The red level numeracy program focuses on building sound number relationship knowledge. They will learn addition and subtraction techniques, times tables, fractions, reading and telling time, measurement and place value.
Purple Level is designed for children in years 3 and 4.
Purple Level is designed for children in Stage 2 – Year 3 & 4 of school. Throughout the program, students gain an understanding that texts have different text structures depending on purpose and audience. They learn how to interpret these and explain how language features, images and vocabulary are used to engage the interest of audiences.
They create a variety of text types and learn spelling rules. We also explore grammar and comprehension.
For Mathematics, an advanced knowledge of number relationships is gained throughout the program. New concepts and a higher level of thinking and techniques are introduced.
